On the morning of Wednesday 25th March 2026 police were contacted by the London Fire Brigade due to a number of vehicles which had been set alight. The first call came in just before 7am where 2 vehicles has been set on fire around Tomlinson Close, E2. This was shortly followed by a call to Swanfield Street, E2, then Calvin Street E1 and Pedley Street E1 – all these calls detailing that vehicles had been set alight. Police officers quickly flooded the area and through working in partnership with Tower Hamlets CCTV Control Room they were able to quickly identify that it was one person who was responsible for all these fire. Using local knowledge of the area police were able to identify a location for the male. In a coordinated approach in order to ensure the male did not escape they apprehended and arrested him within 5 hours of the first call from the London Fire Brigade. The male remains in custody whilst officers work with the council, fire bridge and specialist forensic experts to obtain all the necessary evidence.
